In Procore's Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), a segment is a concept used to describe the components of a WBS and their relationships with one another. To learn more about segments and how they work in Procore, see What are segments and segment items?
At a minimum, your WBS in Procore must contain two (2) segments: Cost Code and Cost Type. Some companies also choose to add the optional Sub Job segment. If you want to be able to record financial line items with more granularity and generate reports for your project financials with more flexible grouping and sorting options, the table provides you with some common examples of how Procore customers can leverage custom segments in Procore's WBS.

1 If you create a custom segment named 'Location', be sure to inform your users that it is a distinct segment for your company's Work Breakdown Structure. Custom segments are not integrated with the 'Locations' field, which is associated with the multi-tiered locations feature in Procore. See What are multi-tiered locations?
