Often during the early stages of a program, you know what trade is needed (e.g., "Electrical Sub") but not who the specific vendor will be. Placeholders allow you to build out the logic and resource-load the program without needing specific directory entries.
In the program settings (or directly in the Resource column), type a generic name such as "Drywall Sub" or "MEP Site team."
Assign this placeholder to all relevant activities across the program.
Once a vendor has been selected for the project, locate any task assigned to that Placeholder.
Right-click the placeholder name in the grid.
Select Assign to real company.
In the window that appears, select the winning vendor from the Project Directory.
Click Update.
Note: Procore will automatically update every instance of that placeholder across the entire program with the actual company name.
