What is the difference between a budget code and a task code?

 In Beta
Task codes for time entry is currently in beta. Learn about the beta and how to opt in.

Answer

In Procore, a budget code is applied to line items in Procore's Financial Management tools to categorise the costs in your budget. A budget code in Procore consists of two (2) default segments (cost code and cost type) and an optional sub job segment.

In Procore's Field Productivity tools, a task code combines a cost code and sub job into a single field to simplify time entry in Timesheets and My Time. Data entered for task codes is automatically attributed to the correct cost code and sub job in your budget.

You can also limit the task codes by cost type so that users can only attribute time entry to labour-specific codes. See Configure Advanced Settings: Company Level Timesheets.

Example

In the Project level Timesheets tool, users can select a single task code instead of separately selecting the cost code and sub job.
