Why can't I create WBS custom segments?
Background
Procore's Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) has three (3) default segments: Cost Code, Cost Type and Sub Job (optional). You can also add custom segments. For example, Phase, Location and more. However, some users may NOT yet have the option to create custom segments in their Procore accounts at this time for different reasons. See below for more details.

Answer
There are (2) reasons the 'Add Segment' button on the 'Work Breakdown Structure' page in the Company or Project level Admin tools might be greyed out and unavailable in your company's Procore environment:
- Your Company is Using Procore's Field Productivity Tools
- Your Company is Using One of Procore's Integrated ERP Systems
Your company is Using Procore's Field Productivity Tools
If your Procore Administrator has enabled Procore's Field Productivity tools in your company's Procore account, you can use the default segments in Procore's Work Breakdown Structure with your Field Productivity tools. However, it is important to note that the custom segment concept is NOT yet supported so the Add Segment button is greyed out and unavailable by default. While Procore does plan to provide our Field Productivity customers with the custom segment capability in the future, a date has not yet been announced.

2 You can only add custom segment items to Procore's default segments in WBS. To learn the difference between a default segment and a custom segment, see What are segments?
Your Company is Using One of Procore's Integrated ERP Systems
If your Procore Administrator has enabled the ERP Integrations tool to work with of the integrated ERP systems built by Procore (for a complete list, see ERP Integrations), you can use the default segments in Procore's Work Breakdown Structure. However, it is important to note that custom segments are turned OFF by default in Procore.
Tip
Did you independently develop or purchase a third-party solution to integrate with Procore? To take advantage of the capabilities associated with WBS, any existing API integrations that you have independently developed or purchased to interact with Procore's Financial Management tools must be updated to support Procore's new WBS API. For more details, see Do we need to update our API Integrations for WBS?If your Procore company account has the ERP Integrations tool enabled... | |

1 You can only add custom segment items to Procore's default segments in WBS. To learn the difference between a default segment and a custom segment, see What are segments and segment items?
2 You cannot add custom segments because your integrated ERP system does NOT support the custom segment concept introduced with Procore's WBS. To synchronise data between systems, the WBS segments in Procore must be consistent with your integrated ERP system. Currently, only Procore's default segments are compatible.
