Add Tiered Locations to a Project

Objective

To add tiered locations to a project using the project's Admin tool.

Background

In Procore, tiered locations give users the ability to link different Procore objects (e.g., RFIs, Submittals and more) to specific locations on a worksite. This helps project team members to pinpoint the exact location(s) on a worksite where a defect was observed, where equipment is to be installed or where a project variation occurred.

Examples
Let's say your project includes the construction of a parking lot, you might want to set up tiered locations as follows:
Parking Lot A > Ground Floor > East
Parking Lot A > Ground Floor > West
Parking Lot A > Level Two > East
Parking Lot A > Level Two > West

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • 'Admin' on the project's Admin tool.
      OR
'Read Only' or 'Standard' permissions on the project's Admin tool with the 'Manage Locations' granular permission enabled on your permission template.
  • Additional Information:
    • If you want to add locations to a project in bulk, you have three options:
      • Request a Multi-tiered Locations Import: Choose this method to send a CSV file of your locations to Procore Support or your Procore point of contact to be imported to your project.
      • Perform a Multi-tiered Locations Import: Choose this method if you have the Procore Imports App and want to expedite the process by self-importing your locations to your project.
Note: Only up to six tiers can be imported via this method. Additional tiers must be created manually.
      • Import Locations Using the Procore Plugin for Revit®: Choose this method if you have Revit® on your computer and want to export locations from the program. The Procore plugin for Revit® allows you to quickly and easily import locations from Revit® to your Procore project at any time.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Admin tool.
  2. In the 'Project Settings' menu, click Locations.
  3. Add a location as follows:
    • To add the first tier, click +Add 1st Tier. Then type a name for the location (e.g., Parking Lot A) and click the checkmark or press ENTER (Note: If you make a mistake, you can alternatively click the RED 'x' to remove your entry).
    • To add a second tier, click +Add 2nd Tier. Then type a name for the sub-location (e.g., Level Three).
    • To add a third tier, click +Add 3rd Tier. Then type a name for the sub-location (e.g., West).
    • If you want to continue adding sub-locations, click +Add 4th Tier, +Add 5th Tier, and so on. You can create an unlimited number of tiers.

  4. Adjust Location Settings (Optional)
    • Only allow locations to be created in the location manager above. If this box is checked, users can only create locations in the Location Manager and are not allowed to create locations from other Procore tools within the project.
    • Include Optional Code. If this box is checked, a prefix containing a code will be added to all locations for use with the naming standard for Procore's Document Management tool. This code will only be visible in the Document Management tool. If you are not using the Document Management tool, do not mark this checkbox.
