Change the Status of a Task

Objective

To change the status of a task.

Background

When editing a task, you can change its status. If you have completed the work associated with task and want to close it, choose the Closed status. If you want to close a task without completing it because the work is no longer required, choose the Void status.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:
    • To edit any task, 'Admin' permission on the project's Tasks tool.
    • To edit a task that you created, 'Standard' or 'Admin' permissions on the Tasks tool. 
      Note: The task can be updated to any status.
    • To edit a task for which you are the Assignee, 'Standard' permission on the Tasks tool.
      Note: The status of the task can be updated to 'Initiated', 'In Progress', or 'Ready for Review', but NOT to 'Closed' or 'Void'.
  • Additional Information:
    • A task's 'Due Date' and 'Status' fields can also be quickly edited from the Tasks display table.
    • You can also change the status of a task when adding a comment. 
    • When a task is placed into the 'Void' or 'Closed' status, the system will no longer send automated email notifications for that task. 

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project's Tasks tool. 
  2. Locate the task you want to change the status of. 
  3. Click Edit
  4. Select a status from the Status list:
    • Initiated: Indicates the task has been created.
      Note: This is the default status. 
    • In Progress: Indicates work on the task has started. 
    • Ready for Review: Indicates the task is complete and ready for review. 
    • Void: Indicates the task has been voided. 
    • Closed: Indicates the task has been reviewed and the work has been successfully completed. 
  5. Click Save.
